Dynamic, Irreverent Zoom Workshops

Zoom Workshops

This fun, intense workshop teaches you to be present and to include how you are—your authentic core being in each moment—in your dialogue, improv, speech, marketing pitch, short story retold or whatever you’re working on.

This is not a static, seated zoom class—participants may yell and jump up and slap the ceiling, roll around on the floor, or laugh loudly. Participants are advised to find a private space.

Class begins with a simple but profound three part warm-up. First, students get comfortable—on the floor, couch, a bed—and begin breathwork and relaxation designed to dissolve tension.

Class is informal and students are encouraged to take care of their own comforts and needs during this process—doing gentle stretching or or other self-care as required: pacing the room, getting a cup of tea, breathing into tense spots, firmly patting arms and legs, stimulating the vagus nerve by scratching the back of the neck and/or massaging the soles of the feet.

Second, the students go through a sensitization process, focusing on all five senses—paying attention to what is heard, seen, felt, smelled, and tasted while continuing to breath. Some people will experience energy running through their body during this practice—this is normal and can simply be observed as another part of the sensory experience.

Next, a personal inventory is expressed out loud as a group, overlapping. Often this starts by repeatedly asking, “How do I feel?” and answering expressively as you get in touch with your physical and emotional state in that moment. It’s fine to be either on or off camera during this process, muted or unmuted.

After the warm up, the class generally proceeds to group craft work and then individual or scene work with the rest of the class as audience. Both the instructor and other students give feedback based on what they observed and felt while the other students performed. This work can be very raw and intimate and confidentiality is required.

There are currently three sections of “Acting From Your Common Senses.”
